I am not a professional from the financial services world, I have no financial training or qualification: instead I have 30+ years experience working as a Project Management professional who has built a career leading multi-million pound projects globally as a leader of the delivery, and as a leader of PMOs (Project Management Offices). My professional training and certification in Portfolio, Program and Project Management has taught me so much that complements my real world experience in managing corporate budgets: pretty much all of which I have been able to apply at home to my personal finances: most notably the principle of ‘If you can’t measure it, you can’t report it’. The application of which has enabled me to make far smarter decisions in my planning, management and governance of home finances: all of which has enabled me to achieve goals that I could not have foreseen when I embarked on my career in the mid 1990’s.
This blog will share insights, tips, techniques and tools from my learnings related to planning, managing and governing home finances. The first real blog that follows: ‘2. Let the data tell the story’ will look further into my conviction and pitch for why everything we do should be based on a ‘data-first’ approach.
